Youth Crime Watch of Miami-Dade has implemented and reinstated YCW school programs (clubs) at numerous school sites for the 2021-2022 school year. YCW of Miami-Dade has also conducted various school presentations (in-person and virtual) on youth crime prevention topics including: School Violence Prevention, Bullying/Cyberbullying Prevention, Cybersafety, Drug Prevention, Reporting Crimes, Dating Violence, and Personal Safety.
The Miami-Dade Red Ribbon Week Campaign (October 23-31) was once again successful on educating Miami-Dade County students on Drug Prevention. Youth Crime Watch of Miami-Dade County conducted YCW “Red Ribbon Week” Drug Prevention Presentations (virtually and in-person) for Miami-Dade County Schools. This year’s Red Ribbon Week Theme was “Drug Free Looks Like Me”. YCW incorporated the theme in the presentations.

Youth Crime Watch (YCW) of Miami-Dade County coordinated the YCW “Bullying Awareness Day” on October 13. Many schools participated by wearing blue in demonstrating their solidarity to prevent bullying and cyberbullying
Youth Crime Watch (YCW) of Miami-Dade is currently coordinating a YCW “Kindness Week” Campaign for the week of February 14-18, 2022. We are asking Miami-Dade schools to coordinate various activities that demonstrate and publicize kindness. We are looking forward to a very successful campaign.

YCW School Programs (Clubs) Spotlight
August 2021-January 2022

Howard Drive Elementary reinstated a YCW school program (club) for the 2021-2022 school year. The school’s YCW Advisors are Counselor Suanne Moses and MDPD Palmetto Bay Officers Peter Judge & Kevin Collins. The program has bi-weekly meetings which focus on Environmental Law and Law Enforcement techniques. They started a garden and the YCW student members continue to tend it daily, incorporating the Environmental theme for the year.

Coral Reef Elementary reinstated a YCW school program (club) for the 2021-2022 school year. The school’s YCW Advisors are Counselor Susan Sirota and MDPD Palmetto Bay Officers Peter Judge & Kevin Collins. They have bi-weekly meetings which focus on Environmental Law and Law Enforcement techniques. The YCW student members studied interview & interrogation , radar, elections, and how these topics relate to Law Enforcement and the environment. They also collected school supplies for the children in Haiti with a local church.

M.A. Milam K-8 Center reinstated a YCW school program (club) for the 2021-2022 school year. The school’s YCW Advisor is MDCPS School Resource Officer Orlando Mesa. They have constant meetings where they discuss youth crime prevention to coordinate activities. They fully participated in the YCW “Bullying Awareness Day” on October 13.
